Fun with TV Themes    Print Print

In the last week I’ve had the theme song to The Office and Facts of Life stuck on repeat in my head. Somehow that led to me thinking it might be fun to post some TV themes and seeing how good y’all are at identifying them!

The themes below are mostly older shows though I did mix a few more current ones in as well. Feel free to use the comments area to share your guesses or just play along at home. I’ll post again on Friday with the answers.

Technical Note: Click on the “+” sign to expand the player and listen to each theme.

  1. Ok, this one’s pretty much a gimme:
  2. Gimme #2:
  3. A friendly threesome (aka Gimme #3):
  4. This soapy show started in the ’70s and lasted through the early ’90s:
  5. Keeping with the theme of primetime soap operas here:
  6. One more. I think it’s lesser known than the last two but it was my favorite of the three:
  7. And then they realized they could target their primetime soaps at an entirely different demographic:
  8. Let’s jump back in time to an old sitcom favorite from the late 50s to early 60s:
  9. Speaking of sitcoms, this was one of my favorites and featured a Bull:
  10. This medicine related show features the person who plays the best sitcom character currently on TV:
  11. Ok, this one is also medicine related and should be easy:
  12. These next four feature “Intelligence” and this first one is the show I keep asking to be released on DVD:
  13. This show actually started out as a TV movie of the week and probably would have last much longer if the lead hadn’t started filming while noticably drunk:
  14. This one’s way too easy to even give you a hint but I couldn’t not include it:
  15. This one too. A remake of the show above with the lead actress from this show would rock my world:
  16. Last one. This Canadian sketch show for young actors really should be out on DVD. You better get this one right because you know what happens if you don’t know…

Wow, I’m really bad at this, but that’s probably because I didn’t watch 90% of these shows. There is one that bugs me though and I can’t figure out what it is, but I know I watched it. Number 15!! You know that’s going to bug me until Friday when you post the answers. :-)

    9. is “Night Court.” But I’m stumped on 13-15, too. I keep playing 14. because it sounds like the “Life on Mars” theme song, so…maybe it, too, is a cop show. ;)

    Rae says:

Roz: All right including 5 except 8…

Sandie: You are going to kick yourself when you find out what #15 is! Here’s another clue. One of the male leads on the show is starring in one of the new dramas this season.

Eolivet: Yep! Hmmm, weird, 14 does kind of have some of the same beats as “Life on Mars” but that’s not it. You’re going to laugh when you hear what it is. How about another clue.. it features technology that speaks.

    14. ?? NO idea

    Rae says:

Jo! Are you at home today? Oh, wait, you said lunch-time break so maybe not. I have to answer some emails.

I knew you’d get 7 and included it just for you! :)

Hahaha.. yes, 10 is right. (Well, they are all right, but that one stands out because of how you guessed.)

13, the noise at the beginning of the theme might help.
14, the hint I gave above still stands… it features technology that speaks. And a watch is involved.

Your clue to Eviolet about #14 makes me think Knight Rider…

  8. 8
    Rae says:

    Yep, Knight Rider is correct!

    Sandie says:

Oh “Alias,” yes I am kicking myself now. Thanks to Just Jody for ending my misery.

    afrocurl says:

I was having issues thinking that 8 was LitB (oh–that looks weird outside the context of Veronica Mars.) I had it first and then thought it wasn’t, but oh well.

Should I be ashamed that I knew so many of those themes?

    Harper47 says:

I was terrible at this! Terrible! I think I got 7 right. Hee! But I completely agree about number 12. When is Scarecrow and Mrs. King going to come out on DVD?

Is this your new website? Where have I been that I didn’t know this. Everything looks great.

  14. 14
    Rae says:

Kell: 6, 12, and 13 are the only ones you got wrong. :) Knots Landing was a good guess, though. I was going to do that theme too until I realized I had way too many.

Gerri: Ha. Hey 7 is better than none! Absolutely no word on Scarecrow on DVD. I’m sure it’s a production rights type of issue. Either that or they think no one is interested and that just makes me sad.

Oh, and yep, this is the new site. Hmmm, I posted about it in early August but maybe that was right about the time you were swamped and out of town for dancing gigs? Either way, thanks :)
