After 3 Weeks: New Shows We’re Watching    Print Print

The 2007 Fall TV season has been underway for 3 full weeks now, and almost everything has premiered (Samantha Who, Women’s Murder Club, and Viva Laughlin are not included here because of their late start dates), so we thought this was a good time to take stock of where we’re at with all these new shows that have been bombarding our TV’s and Tivo’s. We sounded off on what we thought about the shows before they premiered, and here’s what we think now.

O – On the Schedule

Total New Shows 6-11 4-5 3 4 5-8

Looks like Chuck is the clear winner with all 5 of our contributors adding it to their schedule. Pushing Daisies is pushing very closely behind Chuck with 4 people already on board and one still undecided. Dirty Sexy Money comes in third with only one person not watching. Honorable mentions go to Reaper, Gossip Girl and Bionic Woman, which we couldn’t all agree on but at least 2 of us are watching each show.

What do you think? Are you loving what we’re loving? Did we miss anything spectacular? Is anyone watching TV on Friday?

We’re watching TV on Friday! Just not new shows!

Interesting results here. Funny that I was so hesitant to pick up Chuck, and now we’re all fans! And Dirty Sexy Money looks like the surprise hit; I’ve heard a lot of good things about it from people.

In retrospect, maybe we should have added a fourth option of “Didn’t Watch in the First Place,” because I may have loved DSM if I allowed it into my already full schedule. And I have a feeling the three of us who aren’t watching Life didn’t actually watch it, since I’ve also heard pretty good things about that one.

I like how Rae is watching between 6 and 11 shows.

I would just like to point out those 6 to 11 shows are only NEW shows.

    I think I have a problem.

Right… old TV. Thankfully, I don’t have any of that on Friday nights either, gives me a chance to catch up.

You’re quite right that I didn’t even watch an episode of Life. But I don’t like procedurals so there’s not much chance I would have stuck with it. I was definitely surprised by how much I liked DSM.

Rae is my TV Hero! (I added that column just to see how many NEW shows she was watching. She really is the TV Whore!)

    R – I really don’t see it as a problem. You’re just very skilled.

I tried about half of those (some against my will) and only picked up Life for my trouble. :P

After a couple weeks under my belt I think I am standing by my assessment that this is the worst crop of new shows in recent memory. Pushing Daisies would be my only “O” with a “U” going to Chuck (but it is close to an “O”) The Big Bang Theory, Journeyman, and Bionic Woman (which only has one more episode in my trial run before I drop it).

Personally, I would like Chuck much better without the whole spy-info downloaded into my brain @#$%. Yes, I realize that’s the entire premise of the show, but I find the “Buy More” scenes to be entirely engaging while the spy stuff is so over the top it actually bores me. I’m weird, I know…

I caught Life repeating on Saturday and found it intriguing. I don’t know if it will make my regular line-up, but it’s definitely worth catching.

I refuse to watch Cavemen out of principle–plus the caveman makeup gives me the heebs. (again, I’m weird I know…)

Big Shots did nothing for me–even as much as I love Joshua Malina. And I haven’t bothered to catch Dirty Sexy Money. As long as ABC is bringing back Cupid–how ’bout they bring back SportsNight, too? That’s a much better vehicle for Peter Krause and Josh Malina. They’d have to re-cast the Felicity Huffman role, though…

Watched the first episode of Gossip Girls. It’s 90210 set in NYC–but without the teenage angst. Which actually is a bad thing. I’m not interested in watching teenagers acting like bitter, cynical, jaded forty-somethings. If I wanted to watch that, I’d be tuning into Big Shots…

    Rae says:

Haha, Stella, I feel EXACTLY the same way about Gossip Girl. I do hear it got better by the third episode but I just don’t know if I can get past the behavior of these “teenagers” but, more importantly, I don’t care to try.

I’ve seen maybe a few seconds of Cavemen for the same reason but Dirty Sexy Money really is better than I ever expected. As for Chuck, I gotta admit that I like the spy stuff so I clearly don’t have that problem with the show. I think almost every spy thing I’ve ever watched has been over the top so it doesn’t really bother me to see them doing the same thing here. Of course, it still has to be interesting and so far it has been.

Yes, I’m watching tv on Fridays. I’m watching Moonlight and I feel it’s being held to Jossian standards and people are missing the ways it is slowly getting better. I like it at least and I’m watching.

I skipped the pilot for Gossip Girl because I couldn’t even get through the first ten minutes but then I recorded the second ep and ended up really liking it despite myself. Then I LOVED the third ep! Honestly, the only new show I like more is Pushing Daises. Together these two shows make Wednesday night my new favorite night to break plans with friends :)
