This post will be brief, as it’s mostly an addendum to my last post.
It’s fun to see the Internet buzzing about Jossian TV again. Even if all we’re buzzing about right now is the prospect of what’s to come. There are pessimists out there but it seems like they are far outweighed by the optimists and that’s all I ask.
Anyway, I wanted to make sure everyone had a link to James Hibberd’s interview with Joss about Dollhouse. He touches on the one concern that everyone has with the news that the show is going to be on Fox. I encourage you to read the whole thing as they also talk about the return to Fox in light of the recent Buffy sing-a-long cancellations, but here is Joss’ response to the whether he feels any reluctance to return to the network:
“It’s a brand new day over there. It’s a completely new bunch of people and they seem really intelligent and supportive. Walking back into the building was a little strange. But no. It was absolutely the last thing I saw coming, but absolutely the right thing to do. It’s like one of those movies where you keep waiting for somebody to fall in love with the hot girl. It was sort of meant to be. … I mean, a network is a network. They have an agenda and it is not yours. And that’s OK, as long as you work hard to make the agendas coincide.”
I know that it is still Fox and we’ve all been burned so many times including as recently as this past spring. However, the fact that Joss seems to be really on board with the new management at Fox and they approved the budget he wanted, all has me strangely unconcerned about the Fox part. I may come to regret that but isn’t that always the way it is with love? Plus, it helps that he says that Buffy fans would be even more excited about the news, “If they could only see what’s in my head right now….”
Indeed, Joss, if only…

That’s my fantasy! To be able to see inside Joss Whedon’s head.

I know, right?! How awesome would that be?

Yeah, Joss is going to come out and say something like that, he is not going to bad mouth the people signing his paycheck before they even turn in the first script. Call me a pessimists but I am going to pass on the show. I haven’t watched anything on Fox since the Arrested Development series finale after being burned double digit times and the network hasn’t done anything since that makes me think this one will last a month.

Well I wouldn’t expect him to badmouth the network but I think he’d be a little less wordy with what he has to say about them. Since he wasn’t the one seeking out the network and asking to be given a show, I’m a little more likely to think he’s not just stroking their egos with his words.
Of course, the truth is that it’s Joss and I wouldn’t pass on anything he’s doing before giving it a try. Joss just, uh, tells stories that I like. It’s pretty much as simple as that.

[...] Friday Night Links: The Week in TV Blogs And so starts a new weekly installment dedicated to bringing you the best in the TV blogosphere. If you’re reading me, these others have probably been on your roster for quite a while, but is an orgy of everybody’s favorite posts this week just in case. Feel free to spend your weekend absorbing every last word. And considering we might not have anything to write about in month’s time, get it while you can. BuzzSugar: We reminisced about My So-Called Life and wondered how well everyone remembers it. We mulled over the current state of Heroes. We thought HBO’s In Treatment sounded more intense than a college course. And we actually liked Blake Lewis’ first single post-American Idol. Yeah, we know. Daemon’s TV: Sandie finds weird couples on TV and shares her new TV addictions (Supernatural, Malcolm in the Middle, and Torchwood). In addition, she gets a first look at Rachel Bilson (Summer in The O.C.) in NBC’s Chuck. Give Me My Remote: The TV Writer’s Strike is on everyone’s minds, but there’s still a lot of TV to talk about in TV land. GMMR is shocked to discover that she misses Karen Filipelli on The Office, but not shocked that she isn’t missing Cameron, House and Foreman on House. Should she be? And her readers are wondering if her love for all things Pushing Daisies is healthy or something they should be worried about. GMMR ended her week as she always does by catching up on all the latest TV news with a cocktail. Glowy Box: Liz answered questions posed by the Googling masses about Desperate Housewives, The Bachelor, and Grey’s Anatomy. She also marveled at the extreme improvement in Desperate Housewives’ writing this season, and shook her head and sighed at Brad’s poor decision-making skills on The Bachelor. Mikey Likes TV: Mikey listed the many ways in which he’s disappointed by Heroes: Generations, was surprised by how much he likes the new season of Nip/Tuck and forgot about it all after news of Joss Whedon’s blissful TV partnership with Eliza Dushku.
