Premiere Spotlight: 90210 & The Shield    Print Print

Every time I see my offline friends, they want to know what day their shows are returning. Look, people, I have enough trouble juggling my own schedule much less keeping track of everyone else’s! That’s exactly what prompted these posts because, let’s face it, if I’m not reminded that day that something’s returning, I’m going to forget about it. Thank God my DVR has all of my old favorites already programmed. Anyway, if you’re looking to plan out your month, check out these helpful calendar versions of the premiere schedule put together by these kind folks: TV Guide, the TVaholic, and the TV Addict.

Now let’s take a look at what’s premiering tonight…

90210 @ 8PM (CW)
TV’s favorite zipcode is back, will you be dropping in for a visit? The CW claims this is the most anticipated event of the new season and I’m not sure they’re wrong. I’ve no doubt that people will tune in tonight to see whether 90210 succeeds in re-capturing what we loved so much about the original. Even though I’m going into with my expectations as low as they can get, I certainly will be watching tonight. The real question is… how many will be tuning in next week?

All rights reserved. Here’s what to expect from tonight’s two-hour premiere: Harry Wilson, new principal of West Beverly Hills High School, returns from Kansas to his childhood home of Beverly Hills with his wife Debbie, their daughter Annie and adopted son Dixon, to care for Harry’s mother, former television star Tabitha Wilson. On their first day at West Bev, Annie and Dixon encounter Ethan, the star lacrosse player she met a few summers ago; Naomi, the spoiled rich girl whose sole focus is her Sweet Sixteen party; Silver, the free-spirited girl who later gossips about Annie on her blog, and Navid, editor of Blaze News. When Naomi fails to complete an assignment, English teacher Ryan Matthews and guidance counselor Kelly Taylor, bring the problem to Harry, who quickly realizes that keeping secrets about his past is going to be impossible.

Dixon impresses his peers when he tries out for the lacrosse team, but has to deal with jealous teammates who will stop at nothing to sabotage him. Annie misses the deadline to audition for the spring musical but sparks fly when she meets the leading actor Ty, one of the most popular students on campus. Ty impresses Annie by flying her to San Francisco for dinner in his private jet, but Annie fails to mention her plans to her parents. Special guest star Shannen Doherty reprises her role as Brenda Walsh.

The Shield @ 10PM (FX)
Michael Chiklis as Detective Vic Mackey on THE SHIELD airing Tuesday Sep. 2 (10 PM ET/PT) on FX. CR: Prashant Gupta / FX The seventh and final season, or the Final Act as they’re calling it, of The Shield starts tonight and by all accounts fans of the show will not want to miss it. I’d say more but I don’t watch. Greg, our one contributor who does, took my screeners of the first eight episodes of the season and I haven’t heard from him since… I assume he’s been eaten by the show. So, you’ll have to settle for a quick description of tonight’s episode: Vic challenges Shane and deals with threats to his family. A federal agent arrives in Farmington to investigate a recent wave of violence.
